Overview :
TET (Teacher Eligibility Test) is an exam conducted to assess the eligibility of candidates for teaching positions in primary (Classes 1-5) and upper primary (Classes 6-8) levels in schools. It is a mandatory qualification for government teaching jobs .
Eligibility criteria :
1. For Primary Level (Classes 1-5) – Paper I
Candidates must meet any one of the following qualifications:
- Senior Secondary (10+2) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) (2-year program).
- Senior Secondary (10+2) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) (4-year program).
- Senior Secondary (10+2) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in Diploma in Education (Special Education) (2-year program).
- Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in D.El.Ed (2-year program).
2. For Upper Primary Level (Classes 6-8) – Paper II
Candidates must meet any one of the following qualifications:
- Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) (1 or 2-year program).
- Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in Bachelor in Education (B.El.Ed) (4-year program).
- Senior Secondary (10+2) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in B.A./B.Sc. Ed or B.A.Ed./B.Sc.Ed (4-year program).
- Graduation with at least 45% marks and B.Ed, in accordance with NCTE norms.
Additional Points:
- Age Limit: No upper age limit, but state-specific TETs may have variations.
- Relaxation: Reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC/PwD) often get 5% relaxation in qualifying marks as per government norms.
- State Variations: Some states have slightly different eligibility requirements for their State TET exams.
